Welcome to Something Inc, the first company to create artificial angels inside a computer. We call these angels Glupods. These are their characteristics:

- Human-like emotions
- A tendency to compete against each other.
- Desolation and depression if they are not given a child to help soon after birth.
- Its demise, if depression lasts over a week.

Almost a month after something Inc’s discovery, one angel shows signs of happiness even in the absence of a child to sponsor. We name that glupod ‘Weemie’. Something Inc scientists proceed to extensive tests to uncover the genetic variation that allows Weemie to live longer and be happy.

No significant progress has been made in locating Weemie’s gene that makes him different. Hopes are down for the first time among something Inc scientists. If glupods cannot be made to last long enough for somebody to find them a child, it will be impossible to make them available to our customers. For the first time, I am not sure what I must do to save our project.

Today is not a good day for something Inc. We decided that the Glupod Project does not have any future merit and thus we must put an end to it. Weemie is still happy and alive, albeit the only glupod to be so lucky. I am not sure what to do with him, Weemie is a creature of its own kind and I cannot let him die. However, the glupod laboratory is closing down and I cannot keep Weemie forever, so I decide to give him to Shelly whose birthday is today and whom I once hoped I could give more. I do just that, and a miracle happens.

Clouds of particles that we can best explain as ‘good energy’ are being released from Weemie’s body. We do not know the mechanism that generates the particles, neither what exactly set it off, but what we do know is that it only takes one of these particles to make another glupod happy. We decide to refer to the particles as 'glucs', and we resume operations immediately!

We have a lot of hard work ahead of us, but sooner or later we will be able to do what we started out: We will bring Glupods to the world so that you too can experience what it is like to give back with a glupod angel. We hope to see you back on May 30th, and until then, we wish you that whatever it was that made the first gluc jump out of Weemie, can also be found in your heart.
